LED Street Lighting: 3D printed optics

Over the past decade street lighting has been changing rapidly. In order to save energy, improve light distribution patterns and reduce maintenance cost, many OEM lighting companies are changing their product range from HID street lights to LED street lights.

Prototyping 3D printed optics
During this development process many resources are being spend on prototyping the desired LED Luminaire, but a large part of this process is dedicated to the optic itself. The development process of the entire LED Luminaire takes up to several months, from initial custom lens design until field testing and initial feedback from key customers. This process is time consuming and can be frustrating sometimes. Especially if the specifications of the LED package change during this time due to new product release. Or if the achieved light output differs too much from the software generated output. When this happens, It will mean an adjustment of the optics design for all Five LED Lighting Distribution Types. As a result, the accompanying prototypes will have to be created again before moving back to testing phase, setting the development process back several months. In order to speed up the process an advanced 3D printer can be used for you LED street lighting.
LED Street Lighting: customized optics
By using the LUXeXceL 3D printing service for prototyping optics we can help you move through your product development process both more quickly and more smoothly. Once a first optics design is in place, it will only take up to 10 business days before the lens is ready instead of 3 to 8 weeks. However, the main advantage is in the fact that prototyping becomes an iterative process. By simply adjusting the design another print can be made. Furthermore, LUXeXceL its Printoptical Technology is capable of printing batches up to several hundred parts. This means that not only initial testing solutions can be done by 3D printing, but also additional quantities can be requested on demand. This will give OEM Lighting Companies more certainty towards expected volume later on and their decision to invest in tooling.

LED Street Lighting design
LUXeXceL will guide you through your development process more quickly. We will make prototyping an iterative process, and will decrease risk by pushing your investments for tooling further down the road. Until you are absolutely certain of your optics design and needed quantities for large volumes.
