Markforged Metal X – the complete metal printing solution, available from September 2017

Markforged begins shipping its first Metal X printers from September 2017. The 3D printing system is and end-to-end manufacturing solution for fully functional metal parts comprising materials such as stainless steel, tools steel, aluminum, Inconel, and titanium.

The technology driving the Metal X printer is called Atomic Diffusion Additive Manufacturing (ADAM), which offers a new way to build metal parts from design to completion. The Metal X, which is the first ADAM machine, prints parts layer-by-layer via a metal powder encased in a plastic binder. Once the printing is complete, the binder is removed and the part is sintered, erasing the layer-to-layer strength reduction common to 3D printed parts and creating isotropic metal 3D prints. An advanced 3D printing software called Eiger enables printing plastic, metal, and composite parts straight from a web browser.

The ADAM process is unique in that it makes metal 3D printing easier and more affordable than ever before, without the complex limitations of today’s metal 3D printers and CNC machines. By printing metal power bound in a plastic matrix, the Metal X eliminates the safety risks associated with traditional metal 3D printing while enabling new features like closed-cell infill for reduced part weight and cost.

The Metal X printer weighs 68kgs and has a build volume of 250mm x 220mm x 200mm. Featuring a 4th generation, all-aluminum unibody and print system, Markforged sets the standard in build quality and industrial design. With a fully enclosed build chamber, ultra-quiet motion system and environmentally controlled material storage, the printer is equally at home whether in the office or on the factory floor.
