AM Cube: Additive manufacturing of the intelligent kind

3D metal printing with process monitoring

The next generation of intelligent industrial production: The CHIRON Group interprets the motto of Formnext 2021 in its own way. The Additive Manufacturing team will be providing information - live for the first time - about the AM Cube.

The innovative 3D metal printer already wowed visitors at OPEN HOUSE ONLINE with its patented technology for laser build-up welding with wire and powder. In the meantime, the AM Cube has proven itself in industrial use and has a multitude of additional options. New and also to be experienced in the interactive showroom is the comprehensive documentation of the process data with DataLine AM and the recording of the welding process in real time with VisioLine AM.

Even more options for additive manufacturing
Laser build-up welding with the AM Cube is suitable for a wide range of processes and industries: Mechanical engineering, toolmaking, power generation and aerospace. From the coating of components and repair to the near-net-shape production of semi-finished products, there are numerous possible applications for additive manufacturing. And even more with the AM Cube: The CHIRON Group has succeeded in comprehensively serving two processes - laser build-up welding with wire and powder - with just one system. The unique selling point and central advantage of the AM Cube is the fully automatic change of the application head during the running process; the system has a total of up to three application heads.

The 3D metal printer is a future-proof combination solution for additive manufacturing, designed like a classic machine tool with a Cartesian coordinate system. The technology of laser build-up welding is particularly suitable for small quantities as well as large components with long procurement times and high material prices. Converting from four- to five-axis processing with little effort, the AM Cube achieves high order volumes and excellent surface quality at the same time. Thanks to comprehensive safety and protective equipment, completely unmanned operation is also possible.

Process monitoring with DataLine AM and VisioLine AM
In order to be able to specifically analyse and optimise the laser build-up welding process, two new digital systems are now available for the AM Cube. Via DataLine AM, all relevant process data can be continuously displayed, recorded and documented live. Product and process quality can be reliably assessed. VisioLine AM visualises and saves video files that are recorded via several camera systems - e.g. melt bath camera, thermal camera, workpiece camera, workspace camera - and thus allows systematic process monitoring.

In addition, the Additive Manufacturing team will demonstrate the perfect interaction of additive manufacturing and machining in an exciting use case at Formnext. And in a preview, the second innovation project AM Coating will be presented. A system for applying extremely hard coatings to brake discs and rotationally symmetrical components. Hall 12.0 Stand A41
