TÜV SÜD recognized as BACnet test laboratory

TÜV SÜD Industrie Service GmbH has received official recognition from BACnet International as a Recognized BACnet Test Organization. BACnet conformity testing of building automation components by a recognized test laboratory is a prerequisite for successful BTL certification of products. TÜV SÜD Industrie Service is one of four recognized BACnet test laboratories worldwide.

Building automation (GA) needs standards to ensure that communication between several components from different manufacturers functions safely and reliably. As one of the leading communication protocols in building automation, the BACnet protocol is specified in the international standard DIN EN ISO 16484-5, which is being continuously developed. This means that new requirements, such as cybersecurity in GA components, can be taken into account and implemented. "Through our tests, we determine whether the BACnet standard has been fully and correctly implemented", says Christian Bauerschmidt, Managing Director of TÜV SÜD Industrie Service GmbH. "Successful conformity testing provides the product manufacturer with independent proof of the faultless communication of his product. Correct implementation of the BACnet protocol is one of the most important prerequisites for ensuring that products from different manufacturers can also be integrated into a building automation system without difficulty".
As a Recognized BACnet Test Organization, TÜV SÜD Industrie Service can test the entire range of GA components - from sensors and actuators to application-specific controllers and freely programmable DDC systems or management and operating equipment (MBE). The test procedure is defined in Part 6 of DIN EN ISO 16484, which among other things ensures the comparability and repeatability of tests. "The result of a successfully completed test is a test report", explains Thomas Jakob, Head of the Building Automation Laboratory Division of TÜV SÜD Industrie Service GmbH. "The manufacturer can submit the test report to the umbrella organization of BACnet test laboratories, the BTL (BACnet Testing Laboratories), which issues a certificate after successfully reviewing the documentation".
With the BTL certificate, the manufacturer can prove that his product meets the corresponding requirements of the standard. The newly created laboratory area for building automation complements TÜV SÜD Industrie Service's service portfolio in the areas of product testing and
-certification of the already existing laboratories for refrigeration and air-conditioning technology as well as firing and heating technology.
