FACHPACK 2021 shows trends, innovations and best practices for the packaging industry

When FACHPACK is allowed to open its doors at the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg from 28-30 September 2021, it will be the first major meeting place for the European packaging industry in two years and a long-awaited reunion.

Personal dialogue between business partners and colleagues, as well as the exchange of trends, innovations and best practices, will then be the focus of the trade fair for three days. The FACHPACK guiding theme "Environmentally Friendly Packaging" is reflected in the extensive programme of lectures, at the special shows and at the exhibitors' stands. In addition to sustainability, the main topics are changing consumer behaviour, packaging design and digital transformation. Start-ups will present their innovative ideas and products. And the best packaging solutions will be honoured at the presentation of the German Packaging Award (dvi) and the Sustainability Award (Packaging Europe). Visitors from the consumer and industrial goods industries are cordially invited to FACHPACK in Nuremberg.
"We make the future" is the slogan of FACHPACK 2021. "FACHPACK 2021 is the "place to be" for everyone who wants to know what will be in demand in the packaging industry in the future and for those who have missed networking and face-to-face exchanges over the past year and a half," says Heike Slotta, Executive Director NürnbergMesse. Around 690 exhibitors* are currently registered, including numerous well-known packaging machine and packaging material manufacturers. They are preparing their exhibition appearances in the seven occupied exhibition halls. The current exhibitor list and the hall plans are online. In addition to the exhibitors' stands, FACHPACK will once again offer its visitors an extensive and varied supporting programme.
myFACHPACK digitally enhances the trade fair on site
New this year is myFACHPACK, the digital extension of FACHPACK for matchmaking and knowledge transfer. It extends the on-site trade fair into the virtual world. Already in the run-up to the trade fair, the new tool offers networking opportunities and thus enables intensive preparation for the trade fair visit. In addition, the programme of the lecture forums is streamed live during the exhibition and is also available afterwards. myFACHPACK can be used on the desktop, but also on the move via an app.
PACKBOX, TECHBOX and INNOVATIONBOX lecture forums
The two forums PACKBOX (Hall 7) and TECHBOX (Hall 3C) are particularly popular with the public. This year, they will be supplemented by the new exhibitor forum, INNOVATIONBOX (Hall 4). Specialist lectures by renowned experts and discussion rounds will be held there every day.
Each day, PACKBOX will focus on an overarching theme: "Consumers and Trade" (28.9.21), "Sustainability and Innovation" (29.9.21) and "Design & Material" (30.9.21). Key note speakers are Roman Klis from Klis Design, Matthias Giebel from the consulting agency B & P Consultants and Katrin Oeding from Studio Oeding. The focus topics in the TECHBOX are "Resources and Sustainability" (28.9.21), "Innovation & Profitability" (29.9.21) and "Digitalisation & Transformation" (30.9.21). Vera Fritsche from the VDMA Food and Packaging Machinery Association, Sonja Bähr from the Tilisco consulting agency, speakers from the internationally renowned consulting firm Mintel or the Italian packaging machinery association UCIMA, among many others, will provide insights into current developments in the packaging market. The complete programme of all three forums is online at FACHPACK.de/programme.
Special show on sustainable packaging design in Hall 7
A sustainable lifestyle is important to more and more consumers. This is not only about the product, but also about the packaging. An appealing, environmentally friendly design is therefore desirable. The special show "Sustainable Packaging Design" in Hall 7, a cooperation between NürnbergMesse and bayern design, shows particularly successful examples of sustainable packaging design and inspires visitors who are looking for their own packaging solutions.
Start-ups at the promoted joint stand & in the PACKBOX Forum
Fresh, unconventional ideas are always in demand, and start-ups offer these at FACHPACK. Visitors will find the start-ups of the packaging industry at the sponsored BMWi joint stand for young innovative companies and at the international Start-up Area in Hall 7A. There they will show their innovative products and processes to interested packaging specialists. The first FACHPACK Start-Up Slam in the PACKBOX Forum on Thursday, 30 September is also exciting in this context. There, the question of whether start-ups are the number one drivers of innovation will be explored, best practices discussed and success factors shared.
Award ceremonies: The best in the spotlight
The stage will once again be set at FACHPACK 2021 for the presentation of the German Packaging Award, the most renowned European showcase for packaging. The prize is offered by the German Packaging Institute (dvi) and is awarded in ten categories on the first day of the trade fair. As a premium partner, FACHPACK will be responsible for awarding the special prize for young talent. Winners of the packaging award simultaneously nominate themselves for the WorldStar of the World Packaging Organisation (WPO).
After a successful premiere in 2019, the Sustainability Awards will once again be presented at FACHPACK on the third day of the trade fair in the PACKBOX Forum. The organiser is the British trade journal Packaging Europe.
Other pavilions and meeting points
For the third time, there will be an associations' pavilion in hall six. In this networking area, around a dozen associations will provide information and advice on association services and national differences in the packaging industry in Europe. The Labels & More Pavilion will also be held again.
Hygiene concept: personal networking possible
To guarantee a safe visit to the fair, extensive protective measures and a detailed hygiene concept have been developed: Contactless payment, booking of online tickets, hand disinfection options, a state-of-the-art ventilation concept for exhibition halls and congress rooms as well as traceability through digital contact and access recording are just a few examples. So-called community areas in the exhibition halls allow personal networking while maintaining distance regulations.
