HERMES Startup AWARD 2020 goes to a young Indonesian company

For the first time, Deutsche Messe also awarded the HERMES AWARD in the Startup category. This year, Mitra Sejahtera Membangun Bangsa, a young company from Indonesia, the partner country of HANNOVER MESSE 2021, will receive this new award. The startup was chaired by the jury chaired by Prof. Dr. Reimund Neugebauer, President of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, honored for a Smart Farming 4.0 project.

The award-winning product is a sensor network that is linked to a database and enables an app to allow farmers to fertilize and irrigate their fields in accordance with weather conditions and soil conditions. In addition, farmers receive real-time information about the soil conditions and the expected weather conditions. The system uses artificial intelligence to continuously improve the predictions and the resulting recommendations. The yield and quality of the agricultural products produced can be increased in this way. At the same time, fertilizers and water are saved through use-oriented use, which in turn reduces costs.

The first HERMES Startup AWARD was awarded on July 14 as part of the HANNOVER MESSE Digital Days.

Prof. Reimund Neugebauer, President of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and Chairman of the Jury, said: "Startups are true catalysts of innovation: as bridges between research and industry, they quickly apply new developments and technologies and bring them to market. I am particularly pleased to have Mitra Sejahtera Membangun Bangsa, a company that addresses several challenges of our time with an AI solution, including the quality of food, the use of fertilizers and the economical use of resources. "

With the HERMES Startup AWARD, Deutsche Messe annually awards a company that is not older than five years and whose product or solution has a particularly high level of technological innovation. This year, the prize was awarded as part of the HANNOVER MESSE digital event. From 2021 onwards, the winner will be honored during the opening ceremony of HANNOVER MESSE.
