Bobst UK & Ireland opens its doors to showcase latest innovations to industry

Carton converters can experience first-hand the latest innovations in folding-gluing and cutting, as Bobst UK & Ireland opens the doors of its Competence Centre to showcase a trio of technologically advanced machines to the market.

New and existing customers are being welcomed to the centre, in Redditch, to gain an insight into the benefits EXPERTFOLD 110 A2 folder-gluer, SPEEDWAVE 2 device and NOVACUT 106 E die-cutter can bring to their businesses.
Lee Alton, BU Sheet Fed Area Sales Manager at Bobst UK & Ireland, said: “We have just installed and commissioned EXPERTFOLD 110 A2 at BOBST Redditch. The machine is capable of producing straight line, crash lock, 4 and 6 corner cartons and can also incorporate SPEEDWAVE 2 for high speed running of multiple types of crash-lock carton styles. We’ve also installed a new NOVACUT 106 E die-cutter. Now, converters from across the UK are invited to come and see these impressive machines and devices in action for themselves.”
EXPERTFOLD 110 A2 brings outstanding efficiency, versatility and performance to the production line, able to produce a wide range of box styles for various markets. In combination with SPEEDWAVE 2, it offers greater flexibility and enables more complex carton styles to be achieved; this is particularly relevant for internal fitment and beverage cartons, such as whiskey boxes. By simplifying the line setting for such cartons, it shortens valuable set-up time and ultimately, increases productivity. The device requires 80% less tooling to be set and offers stability throughout the speed range.
“Our SPEEDWAVE 2 patented device is the first of its kind on EXPERTFOLD 110 A2 in the UK,” said Lee. “It allows hookless folding of crash-lock cartons, while also letting the cartons run closer together in the machine. This can give a 20% productivity increase by tolerating more cartons per metre, which in turn allows for a greater hourly running speed..”
SPEEDWAVE 2 is also ideally suited to crash-lock cartons with apertures, reducing the equipment normally required to produce such a carton, adding value to customers by way of flexibility and manufacturing efficiency.
“BOBST folder-gluer specialists have recently demonstrated the new machines to a number of companies and delegates from the British Printing Industries Federation during training days,” he added. “Now we’re throwing the doors open to converters far and wide to come along and see the technologies in action.”
The new NOVACUT 106 E die-cutter has a maximum speed of 8,000 sheets per hour and is specified with a number of productive and time-saving operator friendly features. These include integrated quick-lock setting of tooling, from cutting form to stripping equipment. The die-cutter is also equipped with a new large 22” full colour human machine interface SPHERE which provides simple step-by-step procedure guides for the operator throughout the job-setting process, with all settings appearing on one screen for easy navigation.
