Europa-Park is Germany's largest theme park to use Blue4est thermal paper from Koehler Paper

- Next generation of environmentally friendly receipts is sustainable, durable and recyclable
- Changeover at Europa-Park without additional investment costs
- Blue4est paper can be disposed of as waste paper

Koehler Paper, part of the Koehler Group, announces that Europa-Park, Germany's largest theme park, is using the innovative Blue4est® thermal paper, which is also sold in Germany under the name "Ökobon". The blue receipt paper is durable, sustainable, recyclable and guaranteed free of chemical developers. As a real crowd puller with a high level of innovation, Europa-Park attracts almost 5.7 million visitors from all over the world every year. Since August, the amusement park has been using the new blue receipt paper from Koehler at its 95-hectare facility in Rust on the edge of the Black Forest.
Although fun and variety are the main focus at Europa-Park, the family-owned company with its almost 4,450 employees attaches great importance to sustainability. Thus, a holistic approach is pursued and work is continuously done on improving ecological as well as economic and social aspects of sustainability. Sustainability has always been part of the DNA and is firmly anchored in the mission statement. With the introduction of blue receipt paper from Koehler, Europa-Park is responding to customers' desire for more sustainability.
Problem-free introduction at Europa-Park at the existing 600 cash registers
In most cases, the classic till receipt is not waste paper, but residual waste. The blue thermal paper from Koehler, which Europa-Park has been using on its 600 cash registers since August of this year, is completely different. Willy Früh, Head of the Thermal Paper Division at Koehler, states: "Users who switch to our sustainable Blue4est® thermal paper generally do not have to reckon with any additional investment costs. The environmentally friendly receipt works with most printers used in the market." Accordingly, the introduction at the Europa-Park's cash register systems went off without a hitch.
Physics now works instead of chemistry, to the benefit of the environment
Koehler is the world market leader in thermal paper and invested in the development of an environmentally friendly alternative years ago. The receipts commonly used up to now contain small amounts of chemical colour developers. With Blue4est®, Koehler has developed a thermal paper that runs on conventional cash register printers but does not require colour developers. The company has succeeded in replacing the chemical reaction with a physical one - and this without the printout fading, even when exposed to light or moisture. All in all, this makes the paper long-lasting, up to 35 years if the receipts have to be used for documentation purposes. Receipts made of environmentally friendly thermal paper are instantly recognisable by their colour. This is why the consumer can clearly identify them as recycled paper. The raw material for the paper comes from FSC-certified sources. Blue4est® is also the first thermal paper to be approved for direct contact with food.
