Koehler Paper enters into cooperation with packaging specialist CLARUS Films

Cooperation combines paper expertise with know-how of the flexible packaging market
Strongly growing demand in the market for sustainable packaging solutions can be served even better
First joint trade fair appearance at Fachpack from 28-30 September 2021

Koehler Paper, part of the Koehler Group, announces that in future it will be cooperating with CLARUS Films GmbH throughout Europe in the small roll business and as a service partner for the converting industry of flexible packaging papers. The cooperation relates in particular to the area of unprinted, functional coated barrier papers. Koehler Paper and Clarus will make their first joint appearance at Europe's largest trade fair for packaging, technology and processes - Fachpack - in Nuremberg, Germany, from 28-30 September 2021, at stand 119 in hall 4.
CLARUS Films, headquartered in Dietzenbach near Frankfurt am Main, has been consistently focusing on sustainable packaging solutions in the context of the circular economy for several years. In this context, his- torically recyclable mono films, PCR (post-consumer recyclates) as well as compostable films play a major role. Flexible paper solutions will play a major role in the future and CLARUS sees its responsibility as an accelerator of this development to bring sustainable paper solutions to the market.
CLARUS is linked to Koehler not only by its location in Germany, but also by its claim to offer its customers solutions of the highest quality. This partnership combines the knowledge of the classic paper world with the knowledge of the flexible packaging market. Norman Thom, CEO of CLARUS, emphasises: "For us, this cooperation means a significant expansion of the product range and thus the possibility to meet the strong demand for functional papers with corresponding barrier properties".
Cooperation accelerates transformation in the packaging market towards sustainable solutions
For Koehler Paper, this strategic cooperation opens up another market, which it is now developing together with a partner like CLARUS. Eckhard Kallies, Division Manager Flexible Packaging Papers at Koehler Paper, emphasises: "The trend towards sustainable packaging continues to grow rapidly. Our functional Koehler NexPlus® barrier papers are traditionally printed before being converted into flexible packaging, for example for food products. With CLARUS, one of the largest independent European "value added resellers" in the packaging films sector, we have now found a partner with whom we can tap into the market for unprinted packaging."
For customers, this means that they now benefit from the expertise of two experts in the market, as well as an optimised supply chain. "This allows us to further accelerate the transformation towards the use of paper as a packaging solution," Kallies continues.
Cooperation brings synergies for customers not only in the small roll business
With Koehler NexPlus®, the Koehler Group covers the rapidly growing demand for sustainable packaging solutions. Koehler NexPlus® are barrier-coated papers with various functionalities. These are, in particular, barriers for aromas, fats, mineral oils, water vapour and also for gases, which combine with the paper's own functionalities, such as high strength properties and the natural feel, to form a strong overall concept. The paper offers what is important for packaging: protection of the contents, protection of the environment and excellent processing properties. The advantage for customers in the new cooperation is not limited to the small roll business. There are also synergies in the area of large rolls, where CLARUS can also offer extended supply chain models.
