Discover the Unique Wood-based Woodly Material at Slush 2022

The Slush 2022 event will introduce a new sustainable and biobased material to its global audience. Held in Helsinki Finland, the world’s leading start-up event will provide its guests with recyclable cloakroom tickets made from the unique carbon-neutral and wood-based Woodly® material.

As a joint project with one of Europe’s leading research institutes VTT and the Finnish event-planning company Petrol Promotions, the wood-based Woodly cloakroom tickets are a collective climate-positive collaboration to support Slush in its cause to make this year’s event carbon-negative.
“Slush is proud to partner with VTT, Petrol Promotions and Woodly to take yet another step towards a carbon-negative event while showcasing Finnish innovation. We’ve recognized throughout the years that we can spark inspiration and lead by example by focusing both on big deeds and on the other hand small details in our event’s sustainability, “ says Valtteri Meriläinen, Producer at Slush.
The Finnish innovation Woodly Ltd. is best known for providing food packaging solutions to widely recognized businesses and brands such as R-kioski, St1, Kespro, and Neste service stations. As the first of its kind, the recyclable cloakroom tickets made from Woodly® material are an interesting addition to the company’s growing repertoire of sustainable solutions.
“Our main goal is to replace fossil-based plastics with wood-based Woodly®, and we couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity to give everyone a chance to see and feel our unique Woodly® material at Slush this year,” says Jaakko Kaminen, the CEO of Woodly.
A close collaborator with Woodly, VTT have been involved in developing the wood-based material and created the process of transforming it into cloakroom tickets. The institute’s Research Engineer Jari-Pekka Kankaanpää and Satu Mäkelä, Co-Founder of Petrol Promotions, originally came up with the idea of collaborating with Woodly and providing a wood-based alternative to traditional cloakroom tickets for this year’s Slush event.
“This project is a good example of how bio-based materials can be reused in different ways. VTT has years of expertise in the development and processing of bio-based and thermoplastic materials for various applications. We believe that the key to success is in people’s will to find sustainable solutions. Our job is to provide advanced technologies and expertise that enable those visions to come true,” Kankaanpää says.
“Petrol Promotions is excited to be a part of this project. The focus in our business has always been the hundreds of professional event workers, but also helping Finnish innovations and companies such as Slush, VTT and Woodly to get more attention globally,” comments Mäkelä.
Slush 2022 will be held on November 17-18 at the Messukeskus in Helsinki – the largest and most versatile event venue in Finland. This year’s event is expected to attract approximately 12 000 attendees from all around the world.
