Canon ProStream 1800 awarded world's first FOGRA59 certificate

Following rigorous testing, the ProStream 1800 high-performance production system has become the first digital printing system in the world to be certified FOGRA59 by Fogra, the research institute for the print and media industry.

This is not only additional proof that colour accuracy and consistent repeatability are maintained in print output, but also a potential competitive advantage. Thanks to the Canon ProStream's wide colour gamut, 93 per cent of Pantone® colours are covered, depending on the paper used. The Canon ProStream reproduces up to 2,182 of the 2,334 Pantone® colours with a CIEDE2000 < 2.0 colour difference.
The Canon ProStream series is designed for high volume printing. The continuous feed system achieves speeds of up to 133m/min, combined with print quality and media flexibility comparable to offset and the efficiency and versatility of inkjet printing. Thanks to 1,200 dpi piezo drop-on-demand printheads and a special ink formulation combined with Canon ColorGrip, the Canon ProStream 1800 achieves outstanding print quality on a wide range of media, including coated, uncoated and inkjet-optimised papers from 40 to 300 gsm.
Consistent colour appearance across all production steps
Fogra 59 (EciCMYK v2) is the successor to Fogra 53 (eciCMYK). This is a CMYK profile from the field of print production. The wide colour gamut covers all relevant output standards and corresponds to the typical CMYK colour spaces of classic printing, enabling a uniform colour appearance across all production steps.
The Canon ProStream 1800's FOGRA59 certification builds on the recent certifications of other Canon inkjet presses. The Canon varioPRINT iX series has achieved FOGRA51 certification for meeting ProcessStandard Digital (PSD) specifications from Fogra. The Canon ProStream 1000 is also certified. Specialist book and journal printer Henry Ling has already received certification for its production workflow with the Canon ProStream 1000.
Thomas Haep, Country Director Production Printing Products at Canon Deutschland GmbH, comments, "Our goal at Canon is to provide our customers with innovative inkjet technology that enables them to grow their business. Users meet changing customer requirements, while we know that the quality of our technology is advanced and reliable to meet current and future production challenges. The independent Fogra quality benchmark helps customers objectively evaluate the performance of our digital presses. When our customers invest in a Canon system, they not only achieve a high level of quality comparable to offset, but also that their own production workflow can achieve Fogra accreditation."
