Shuttle presents digital signage display with biometric technology

Shuttle is expanding its product portfolio for vertical markets with a digital signage display in a long bar-type format. Under the designation D230, an immediately usable signage player has been specially designed for shelf advertising in retail outlets. An integrated camera allows the display of target group-specific content through biometric recognition. The bright 23.1" screen can be divided into up to four segments that communicate different advertising messages directly at the POS.

- Simple transfer of content to the device via app
- Configured in a few steps
- Alternatively available as server-based version with precise visitor analysis
The D230 is considered a further milestone and is the first digital signage display in Shuttle's long product history to be available in the extraordinary bar-type format with dimensions of 29 × 603 × 75 mm (TBH). Its 23.1" screen has a resolution of 1920 x 158 pixels and can transport up to four different advertising messages simultaneously. The front side complies with the IP54 protection class and is therefore protected against dust and splash water. The target group for this product is the retail trade.
Inside, the D230 features a powerful engine. It uses a Hexa-Core ARM processor with up to 1.8 GHz, integrated graphics and 16 GB eMMC flash memory. More memory for content can be added using the existing microSD card reader. Also on board are camera, WLAN, network with PoE support, loudspeakers as well as audio and USB interfaces. The silent D230 is suitable for 24/7 continuous operation. The fact that the device does not require a fan makes it both robust and low-maintenance.
Easy to use
With mobile apps and browser-based controls, Shuttle relies on intuitive operation that allows easy management without any previous knowledge. Content can be managed and transferred via LAN or WLAN. Free apps for mobile devices make configuration of the D230 and content management easy.
"Our solution enables information and advertising messages to be communicated precisely where the purchase decision is often made, on the shelf, and without major wastage," explains Tom Seiffert, Head of Marketing & PR at Shuttle Computer Handels GmbH. "A smart addition to Shuttle's established signage and POS products".
In addition to the stand-alone version with app management presented at the beginning, the D230 is also available as a server-based solution with an extended range of functions, which can, for example, carry out an analysis of customer behaviour over the network, taking into account eleven age groups.
Server-based product variant
The server-based version of the D230 has the advantage that it allows content to be even more targeted, taking biometric factors such as gender and age into account. It is also possible to analyse how often and by which customer group the various advertising messages were seen. Using an additional Linux server, it is possible to edit content via a web interface in the browser. Additional features of the server-based version include the possibility of grouping several clients, the integrated media library on the server for content management and the possibility of transferring manually started, time-limited advertising messages to the device groups via the web interface. Optionally, this version can also be expanded via the M.2 slot with a 4G modem for WLAN-independent Internet access.
Flexible shelf mounting
The D230 supports flexible screw mounting and can be hung using universal shelf hooks. Using the optional PD230 accessory, several D230 units can be mounted in a row. The kit includes a power supply connection cable, metal connection plates and matching screws. In this way, up to five D230 units can be powered by a single power supply unit.
Shuttle's recommended retail price for the D230 is 599 euros (including 16% VAT). The price for the server version is not yet fixed. The stand-alone version of the D230 is now available from specialist retailers.
