SID Salutes The 2014 Honors And Awards Recipients For Outstanding Achievements & Contributions To The Display Industry

The Society for Information Display (SID), will honor the recipients of its prestigious 2014 Honors and Awards for exceptional contributions to the field of information display next Monday, June 2 at its annual banquet during Display Week, being held at the San Diego Convention Center.

More information and background on each of this year's well-deserved winners will be available at the event, but those that can't attend the banquet can learn more about the winners in the 2014 SID Honors and Awards article, published earlier last month.

2014 SID Honors and Awards Recipients

The Karl Ferdinand Braun Prize, sponsored by AU Optronics Corporation, is presented for an outstanding technical achievement in, or contribution to, display technology.

Dr. Katsumi Kondo, SID Fellow and a member of the Corporate Research and Development Group at Sharp Corporation, will be receiving the Karl Ferdinand Braun Prize for his contributions to the development of in-plane-switching (IPS) TFT-LCD technology.

The Jan Rajchman Prize, sponsored by Sharp Corporation, is presented for an outstanding scientific or technical achievement in, or contribution to, research on flat-panel displays.

Dr. Dirk J. Broer, Professor at Eindhoven University of Technology, will receive the Jan Rajchman Prize for his pioneering development of UV-polymerizable liquid-crystalline polymers and his contributions to their applications in flat-panel displays.

The Otto Schade Prize, sponsored by Samsung Display, is awarded for an outstanding scientific or technical achievement in, or contribution to, the advancement of functional performance and/or image quality of information displays.

Candice Brown Elliott, CEO and Founder of Nouvoyance, Inc., will be awarded the Otto Schade Prize for her development of PenTile display technology.

The Slottow-Owaki Prize, sponsored by Fujitsu Ltd. and Dr. Tsutae Shinoda, is awarded for outstanding contributions to the education and training of students and professionals in the field of information displays.

Dr. Han-Ping Shieh, a professor and Vice-Chancellor at National Chiao Tung University, will be awarded the Slottow-Owaki Prize for his contributions to the education and training of students and professionals in the display field.

The Lewis & Beatrice Winner Award for distinguished service is awarded to a Society member for exceptional and sustained service to SID.

Jenny Bach, data manager for the Society's California headquarters, is the winner of the Lewis & Beatrice Winner award for her work in enabling the SID office to handle the growth in members, chapters, and student involvement during a period of rapid growth for SID.

2014 SID Fellow Awards honor individuals who have made a widely recognized and significant contribution to the field of information display.
