C&T Matrix solve POS dilemma for The SPS Group

Revolutionary C&T Matrix Corrugate solves print cracking and laminate issue.

The SPS Group is an industry leading supplier of retail marketing and point of sale solutions. Designing and producing bespoke in-store marketing products for global retailers and brands such as Coca Cola, P&G and La Senza, its range includes 3D display units, window graphics, canvas prints and wallpapers.

The SPS Group were commissioned to produce a range of 1.4m tall 3D standee units for a leading FMCG brand, for use in major retail outlets across the UK. The unit required solid black print, to fold and laminate, to a corrugated EB flute at 180⁰. The printed paper was finished with a high gloss UV varnish. However, the initial platen tests had not been successful across a range of paper thicknesses and weights. Cracking appeared along the black solid areas and adjustments to the folding matrix only partially resolved the issue.

The SPS Group approached C&T Matrix, who completed a full audit of the issue and recommended different combinations of its revolutionary CORRUGATE product. Corrugate Standard and U Bend with various locators to accommodate single and double rules were used in combination to resolve the cracking issue, giving perfect creasing.

Simon Shenton, Managing Director at C&T Matrix said, "We listened to The SPS Group and used our know-how to help resolve the cracking problem. By creating brand new products such as Corrugate, we are able to help our clients to achieve better results and save them money. This revolutionary combination of products and expertise is all aimed at improving productivity, performance and quality".

Corrugate has been specifically developed and engineered to help eliminate cracking, registration, runnability and adhesion problems normally associated with creasing fluted and display boards.

Corrugate reduces knuckling by creating a holding form in which to crease, the result is a more accurate and better defined crease and overall appearance is improved. Corrugate has a base which is much wider than traditional products, resulting in stronger adhesion to the plate, thus reducing movement and improving registration. This wider base also helps to 'cushion' the impact of the crease. The improved edge on the creasing matrix and shallower angle of the chamfer helps to overcome problems such as poor run ability of the board and blocking in the machine caused by folding thicker boards.

The SPS Group pride themselves as a platform for testing new materials and production techniques. C&T's recommendation resulted in the job being completed successfully with a 0 % scrap rate.
Darren Clarke, Purchasing Manager at The SPS Group commented "C&T's professional approach to our problem was exceptional. Their knowledge helped us to overcome this issue quickly avoiding any further costly wastage. We now use C&T as our supplier of choice for all our creasing matrix requirements".
