Canon Europe Ltd. and Plockmatic, global provider of finishing solutions for the printing and mailing industry, have entered into a close cooperation. This now results in a seamless inline connection of Plockmatic's "DigiCoater Pro 400 HD LED" coating system to the Canon varioPRINT iX series.
This integration increases the already great flexibility of the digital inkjet sheetfed printing system of the varioPRINT iX series. The combination makes production higher quality - even at rated speed in a single automated step. With its offset-like print quality, high productivity and compelling cost-efficiency, the Canon varioPRINT iX series is once again proving to be the preferred investment for commercial and online printers.
Commercial printers who want to use the Canon varioPRINT iX series to produce business cards, postcards, photo articles, book and magazine covers, among other products, can now enhance their printed products thanks to the DigiCoater Pro 400 HD LED. The integration eliminates both the need for manual intervention and the risk of a production bottleneck. Applications can be realised with the shortest production deadlines. The use of a post-applied coating during production not only makes the results more eye-catching, but the coating also protects the printed materials from wear, water, dirt and abrasion.
Thanks to the low varnish application of only 2 to 4 g/m2 of varnish, this finishing is far more cost-efficient compared to conventional technologies that use 15 to 30 g/m2 for varnishing. As both systems run at the same speed, the material can be printed and then coated with the Digicoater without reducing the performance or speed of the Canon varioPRINT iX series. As the finished coated output is room temperature, the printed and finished sheets are immediately ready for further processing without wrinkling or shrinkage.
The two systems are connected via an open SFD interface. The bidirectional communication between the varioPRINT iX series and the Plockmatic Digicoater Pro 400 HD LED results in a highly efficient, end-to-end workflow. This level of compatibility and automation means that incorrectly printed sheets are detected and automatically reprinted by the Canon varioPRINT iX.
