Star Micronics offers a unique micro voucher solution for KassenSichV and voucher issuance obligation

The international POS printer manufacturer Star Micronics announces that it has developed a flexible, cost-effective and future-proof solution for the KassenSichV, which is also environmentally friendly.

Star takes a comprehensive approach that includes traditional POS, tablet and cloud cash registers, and ensures that its vast range of POS printers is compatible with the new cash register security regulations.

This means that the wide range of POS and payment software providers Star works with can choose the TSE provider they want to work with to ensure flexibility for the future. These vendors in turn can offer the retailer a control solution that is compatible with a range of Star printers. In addition, the retailer can continue to use a Star desktop or mobile printer, or simply purchase a new Star printer as needed to provide a cost-effective, future-proof solution.

There has been much debate about why retailers are required to provide a paper or digital receipt for all transactions in accordance with this Regulation and its environmental requirements. As a manufacturer of receipt printers, Star is well placed to offer a solution that is still compliant, but which is actually environmentally friendly thanks to reduced paper consumption.

Star offers the unique ability to create a digital receipt without the retailer needing an email address of the customer or even the customer having to provide personal information. Star Cloud Services is activated in the printer driver or in the printer itself and works independently of the retailer's POS software. At the end of the transaction, the customer can request a digital copy of the receipt using the free Star AllReceipts™ app. This is achieved by the customer simply scanning a QR code that is printed on the paper receipt. The immediate benefit for the customer is the ability to remain anonymous and still receive a digital receipt and any vouchers that may be offered.

Retailers can also use the reverse side of digital receipts in the same way as printed receipts to display vouchers, which customers can then retrieve on their smartphones together with the digital receipt.

To further reduce the environmental impact, Star offers retailers the option of printing a "micro-receipt". This receipt is much smaller than a standard receipt and contains only a QR code, which in turn represents the complete digital receipt with all the necessary tax data. Paper consumption can be reduced considerably, as a micro receipt is only about 5cm long. This option is available on a number of different Star POS printers. In addition, Star actively works with a number of paper manufacturers to ensure that the printers can use not only phenol-free thermal paper, but also sustainable, recyclable and environmentally friendly paper. By the way, Star has not offered paper containing bisphenol A for over 10 years.

"Since being required to provide a receipt in accordance with KassenSichV, retailers of all sizes have been able to effectively reduce paper consumption and environmental impact thanks to Star's digital receipt service, which includes a unique micro receipt printing solution," said Simon Martin, Director & General Manager of Star Micronics EMEA.
