Graphic Packaging International sees high demand for Paperseal tray solution; supports capacity expansion in Europe

Leading paper packaging company Graphic Packaging International ('Graphic Packaging') has announced that machine investments are being made at several sites in Europe and Australia to meet demand for its unique solution, the PaperSeal® tray.

This year PaperSeal production lines will be installed in Ireland, Scotland, Spain, Greece and Australia as part of expansion plans to supply trays to new customers.
The innovative PaperSeal Tray, which is a barrier film solution made from recycled cardboard, significantly reduces the use of plastic packaging for food and other products. It is currently used by many household brands in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and other countries.
Paul Tye, Business Development Director at Graphic Packaging, said, "The success of our PaperSeal tray has been phenomenal this year. With a focus on sustainability, many European retailers are switching to recycled and reusable packaging substrates, especially those made from renewable resources, to reduce their impact on the environment. The PaperSeal Tray, our carton solution with barrier film, helps achieve these goals by reducing the amount of plastic required to preserve and present food. Due to its consistent seal integrity, the tray guarantees long-lasting freshness, thereby helping to reduce food waste. In addition, consumers can easily separate the barrier film from the carton to feed the components to the individual recycling circuits."
Thanks to the PaperSeal Tray and with the help of the heat-seal Vacuum Skin Packaging (VSP) process and modified atmosphere packaging (MAP), large retailers can package their goods in a variety of applications, including fresh or processed meat, fish, cheese, salad and fruit. In addition, the tray provides a high level of differentiation on shelf compared to traditional VSP, as it can be printed with high quality graphics.
The PaperSeal Tray is available for marketing throughout Europe. "We are delighted that many major retailers are using our PaperSeal Tray," continues Tye. "Reducing our impact on the environment is one of our key priorities at Graphic Packaging. However, change doesn't happen overnight. We look forward to supporting our customers as they embark on their journey to a sustainable future and a circular economy."
