Minebea Intec launches upgrade for dynamic checkweighers: High speed meets precision

With the new WZED load cell, Minebea Intec presents a turbo upgrade for its checkweighers: the new load cell with electromagnetic force compensation and digital controller has received MID approval for legal-for-trade applications with belt speeds of up to 3 m per second, i.e. a throughput of up to 600 pieces per minute. In addition, the upgrade package includes a host of other features that are of great benefit in high-speed applications.

As one of the world's leading suppliers of weighing and product inspection solutions, Minebea Intec is constantly working to improve its existing products. For this upgrade, in the form of a new generation of load cells, the company has put together a complete package of features that will be incorporated in all verifiable checkweigher models with high-precision load cells and electromagnetic force compensation in the future.
The upgrade for optimal efficiency in checkweighing
The upgrade combines three functions: the new WZED load cell with electromagnetic force compensation, the integrated high-speed electronics and the digital controller. The advantages for the customer are numerous and varied: for example, the new load cell in combination with the digital controller offers higher reliability and precision. In addition, it allows an extremely low minimum weight: products from five grams can be weighed verifiable according to all standards.
In addition to the higher speed and precision during weighing, the digital controller also offers the advantage of lower susceptibility to interference from factors such as temperature, humidity or wind. Checkweigher models for legal-for-trade applications equipped with this load cell upgrade are very well suited for dynamic weighing with lower weight products, such as in the confectionery industry or canned products, thanks to the reduced minimum weight. In other industries such as pharmaceuticals, chemicals or cosmetics manufacturing, the reduced minimum weight, together with support for higher belt speeds, increases efficiency and throughput. Minebea Intec checkweighers are highly accurate and provide reliable control functions for numerous weighing applications, completeness checks and filling process optimisation. As a result, they enable customers to maximise production output and efficiency.
MID approval as the starting signal for high-speed weighing
The WZED load cell has MID approval in accordance with the EU Measuring Instruments Directive for legal-for-trade applications and is certified for belt speeds of up to 3 m per second, which corresponds to a throughput of up to 600 products per minute.
The WZED's new electronics are built into the load cell housing. This hygienic design saves space and ensures easier cleaning. The new housing facilitates installation and access to the load cell for service or maintenance.
Initially, this upgrade is intended for all Minebea Intec checkweigher series. But this is just the beginning: "With the WZED upgrade, Minebea Intec proves that we always aim for the optimum. Our checkweighers with EMFC weighing technology have always been characterised by maximum precision and reliability - but with the WZED upgrade as an integrated component, we are opening a new chapter," says Sara Vivanco, Product Manager at Minebea Intec. "We also plan to make the new load cell available to equipment and plant manufacturers soon. Given the large number of interfaces, the WZED is ideally suited for future integration into existing systems." With that, Sara Vivanco gives a brief glimpse into a promising future.
