HERMES AWARD jury nominates three solutions

An independent jury of top-class experts from politics, business, research and society, chaired by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Reimund Neugebauer, President of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, has nominated three companies for the HERMES AWARD from among the numerous submissions: Bosch Rexroth, Harting and Sumitomo Cyclo Drive Germany (listed in alphabetical order). The winner will be announced at the opening ceremony of HANNOVER MESSE on 29 May in the presence of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Every year, Deutsche Messe AG presents the HERMES AWARD, the most important international industry prize, to a company whose product or solution demonstrates a particularly high degree of technological innovation. Only technology solutions that have already been industrially tested are considered. "We are delighted to finally be back at HANNOVER MESSE after a break due to the pandemic and to be able to present a wide variety of innovations and solutions to the international industrial community. Three outstanding products have now been nominated for the HERMES AWARD," says Dr. Jochen Köckler, Chairman and CEO of Deutsche Messe AG.

Jury Chairman and Fraunhofer President Prof. Neugebauer explains the selection of this year's nominees: "The HERMES AWARD is one of the most important technology prizes in the international industrial landscape. Once again this year, the quality of the submissions, with their application-specific, efficient and user-oriented approaches to solutions, was impressive throughout. The task of the jury, made up of top-class international industry and technology experts, was correspondingly challenging. I am convinced and pleased that we were able to nominate three solutions, each of which is an excellent example of innovative strength in its field."

Bosch Rexroth, Lohr am Main: The nominated project crtlX Core is a flexible, compact, modular and app-based control platform that is based on the Linux real-time operating system and is freely configurable. This enables companies to automate processes more easily, as the use of standards and web-based engineering throughout makes proprietary software installations superfluous. The entry hurdle into PLC programming is thus reduced. Further advantages result from the integration of third-party apps and the possibility of integrating AI.

Harting, Espelkamp: The nomination was for the Han-Modular Domino Module industrial connector, a further development of the existing standard, consisting of two modules that can be flexibly assembled via an interlocking mechanism. The connector system transmits power, signals, data or compressed air. This means that, for the first time, electrical and pneumatic systems can be transmitted in one module, which considerably reduces the required plug connections, installation space and weight. Further savings result from shorter assembly times.

Sumitomo Cyclo Drive Germany, Markt Indersdorf: The nominated product TUAKA is a completely integrated drive for robot applications and automation technology. The gearbox, the motor and the driver with safety functions are new. Due to the sensor technology and thermal management, the product is suitable for high-precision, sensitive applications in service robotics as well as for interaction with humans. The modular concept and the modular systems enable an application-specific configuration of the necessary hardware.
