Deutsche Messe announces HERMES AWARD 2023

On the occasion of HANNOVER MESSE, Deutsche Messe will announce the HERMES AWARD - the world's most important industry prize - for the twentieth time. It will be presented by the Federal Minister of Education and Research, Bettina Stark-Watzinger, at the opening ceremony of HANNOVER MESSE on 16 April. Companies and institutions participating in HANNOVER MESSE have until 15 February to apply for this prestigious award.

An independent jury made up of top-class experts from politics, business, research and society, chaired by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Reimund Neugebauer, President of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, will nominate three products each for the HERMES AWARD and the HERMES Startup AWARD from among the entries and select the respective winner from this group. The criteria of technological degree of innovation, benefit for industry, the environment and society, economic viability and readiness for implementation play an outstanding role in the assessment of the prize-worthiness.

Every year, Deutsche Messe AG presents the HERMES AWARD to a company whose product or solution demonstrates a particularly high degree of technological innovation. Only technology solutions that have already been tested in industry are considered.

The HERMES AWARD 2022 went to Sumitomo Cyclo Drive Germany. The company was awarded for a completely integrated drive for robot applications and automation technology. The gearbox, the motor and the driver with safety functions are new. Due to the sensor technology and thermal management, the product is suitable for high-precision sensitive applications in service robotics as well as for interaction with humans. The modular concept and the modular systems enable an application-specific configuration of the necessary hardware. The TUAKA product is ideally suited for use in the rapidly growing robotics market.

Already in the past two years, the HERMES AWARD jury made use of the possibility to award a special prize and honoured one company each time with the HERMES Startup AWARD. In 2022, the HERMES Startup AWARD went to MIP Technology from Hanover. The award-winning project is a magnetic identification solution as an alternative to optically readable codes and RFID tags.
