eSkootr Championship commits to net-zero carbon footprint by 2022

• Series joins UN Climate Neutral Now programme
• Sits alongside community of leading organisations such as Microsoft & Sony
• Di Grassi: “Science-based and mission-driven approach fundamental to our sustainability road map”

The eSkootr Championship™ (eSC) has announced its commitment to the United Nations’ Climate Neutral Now programme – which enables organisations to measure, reduce and compensate for their carbon footprint.

The scheme, which is led by the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), encourages companies and organisations to understand their carbon footprint and to make measurable improvements to reduce it.

Achieving climate neutrality is a three-stage procedure, involving (i) the calculation of greenhouse gas emissions; (ii) active emissions reductions through practical means; and (iii) complete compensation using trustworthy carbon credits, such as UN-certified emission reduction units.

eSC has already begun a step-by-step approach to the calculation of its carbon footprint. It is also framing sustainability best-practice and innovation in the design and planning phase of its eSkootr chassis, and championship logistics.

The goal is to achieve a net-zero carbon footprint by 2022, underlining a commitment to grow environmental sustainable practice in the sport as well as the real world of micromobility. This is the first in a series of mission-driven actions designed to promote sustainability.

Additionally, eSC strongly supports the wider objectives of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, recognising the clear link between public health and environmental sustainability. A central pillar of the race series is the promotion of safer, cleaner mobility options and the development of greener, more liveable cities via our public policies, advocacy and awareness campaigning.

“The United Nations leads the way in helping forward-thinking, environmentally conscious organisations to become climate-neutral – as part of its wider goal to achieve global climate neutrality midway through this century.

“eSC is committed to a science-based and mission-driven approach to reducing our carbon footprint. Achieving our net-zero target through transparent, measurable steps is fundamental to the sustainability road map for our series.

“Motorsport can be a powerful catalyst for innovation, and eSC has an exciting contribution to make on sustainability and safety to the rapidly growing micromobility movement.”

Lucas di Grassi, eSkootr Championship™ Sustainability Ambassador

“We are happy to welcome eSC’s pledge to combatting climate change through their joining the UN Climate Neutral Now initiative. Through this commitment, eSC will in fact work towards reaching the climate neutrality goal enshrined in the Paris Agreement, all the while supporting UN-vetted green projects that reduce emissions in developing countries.

“In doing so, eSC will not only contribute to a healthier climate and a more thriving planet, but will also increase sustainability and development in the communities where these projects are implemented."
