3M amplifies sustainable business action through United Nations Global Compact sponsorship

In September 2020, 3M became a Patron Sponsor of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) SDG Ambition. The SDG Ambition is a UNGC Global Impact Initiative aimed at helping companies integrate the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into core business objectives, and thereby advance sustainable impact and global progress against the goals.

As a next step in this sponsorship, 3M, in collaboration with the UNGC, SAP and Accenture, is pleased to announce the launch of the SDG Ambition Accelerator Program. The Accelerator is a facilitated learning course that challenges and supports participating companies in setting ambitious corporate sustainability goals and accelerating the integration of the SDGs into core business management.

“3M is pleased to partner with the United Nations and other leading organizations to build a collaborative approach to improving lives around the world,” said Mike Roman, 3M chairman and chief executive officer. “We hope the SDG Ambition Accelerator will inspire other companies to join us in working to make this a Decade of Action.”

Throughout the next six months, the SDG Ambition Accelerator Program will engage more than 1,150 representatives from 600 participating companies across 65 countries to assess current performance, risk areas and new opportunities across their business. Ultimately, this will help companies take more ambitious business actions towards achieving the SDGs by 2030. 3Mers spanning Canada, the U.S., Europe, the Middle East and Africa will participate in the Ambition Accelerator Program.

As the SDG Ambition moves forward, 3M will continue to collaborate with program partners and the UNGC to provide leadership in program and curriculum development, lending expertise in sustainability goal setting and bringing an advanced manufacturing perspective.
