Constantia Flexibles and Plasthill B.V., a company of the Dutch Oerlemans Packaging Group, are bringing the CompresSeal technology developed by Constantia Flexibles together to the European market. The CompresSeal film has a higher seal strength than standard polyethylene film and weighs up to 30% less. The film will be available to the first customers in selected markets from August 2022.
Plasthill, a manufacturer of high-quality technical films and packaging based in Hillegom, the Netherlands, and Constantia Flexibles, an Austrian-based flexible packaging manufacturer, are combining their expertise to bring more environmentally friendly films to market on an industrial scale.

A partnership to improve flexible packaging.
CompresSeal technology is based on a novel and specialised micro-embossing technique. The innovative embossing pattern enables the basis weight of polyolefinic sealing films to be reduced by up to 30% without any change in packaging thickness. As a result, this technology can be used to reduce the CO2 footprint of packaging and the consumption of raw materials.
The technology also reduces the problems associated with the migrating slip agents often used in the PE and PP film industry. Fewer additives can be used and the coefficient of friction of the packaging line also remains constant, regardless of environmental factors such as temperature and humidity. The innovative packaging solution is particularly suitable for flowpacks, for example for detergents, dry pet food, coffee, nuts and savoury foods, as well as stand-up pouches for liquids. The initial development focus is on polyethylene films in thicknesses above 60 grams per square metre, where weight savings have the greatest environmental impact.
