Low-migration series for LED UV offset printing

The printing ink manufacturer Zeller+Gmelin GmbH & Co. KG has expanded its extensive portfolio of low-migration printing inks with a new series of process inks for LED UV applications in sheet-fed and web offset printing. The low migration of the Uvalux® LED U581 FCM series has been confirmed by the results of corresponding analyses. As it is also classified as low-odour, it is particularly suitable for printing on food packaging - both paper and film. All raw materials used are state-of-the-art with regard to the requirements of the EU Chemicals Regulation REACH and the EuPIA Exclusion Policy.

The ink series features a balanced ink/water balance and optimized flow properties, ensuring stable production in the press. Due to its high reactivity, an LED unit is sufficient for reliable curing. The absorption spectrum of the new series is designed for the wavelength ranges 385 nm and 395 nm. In addition to the aspect of migration resistance, printing with the new LED UV ink series also offers the advantage of lower heat input into the substrate, so that even temperature-sensitive substrates can be processed. Because various cold foils can be overprinted very well, high-quality finishing of the printed products is possible.
Initial print tests with the Uvalux® LED U581 FCM ink series have been successful. The newly developed cold foil adhesive Uvalux® LED U0851 FCM from Zeller+Gmelin was also used in the tests for the production of food packaging in LED UV offset printing. The reactivity of the ink series and the adhesive is similarly high. The adhesive can be printed with sharp edges and shows good adhesion to the film and substrate. It is a transparent adhesive with a slight grey tint, which on the one hand simplifies positioning and on the other hand also enables control of the application quantity. The cold foil adhesive Uvalux® LED U0851 FCM is also low migration and covers the same field of application as the Uvalux® LED U581 FCM ink series. There are also analyses available for the new cold foil adhesive that confirm its low migration.
