The Conference Board Leading Economic Index® (LEI) for Mexico Declined in August 2015

The Conference Board Leading Economic Index® (LEI) for Mexico declined 1.5 percent in August to 98.5 (2010 = 100), following a 1.1 percent decline in July, and a 0.8 percent decline in June.

At the same time, The Conference Board Coincident Economic Index® (CEI) for Mexico, a measure of current economic activity, increased 0.3 percent in August to 116.7 (2010 = 100), following a 0.3 percent increase in July, and a 0.3 percent increase in June.

The LEI for Mexico fell sharply again in August, its fifth consecutive monthly decline. The weaknesses among its components have also become widespread. As a result, the six-month change in the LEI remains negative, although the rate of decline is not as steep as in the beginning of the year. Meanwhile, the six-month growth rate of the CEI remains relatively steady. The LEI for Mexico continues on a downward trend, suggesting that Mexico's economic activity is unlikely to improve this year.
