Konica Minolta Introduces New Entry-level System for UV Spot Coating

Haptically appealing printed products and packaging create incentives to buy

Konica Minolta launches the MGI JETVARNISH 3D One, a new entry-level model for UV spot varnishing. This allows suppliers of digital and offset printing to refine their products with little effort.
The MGI JETVARNISH 3D One uses a universal coating for various 2D and 3D effects and performs the coating in a single pass. With the production of eye-catching print products, the entry-level model opens up new opportunities for print service providers to generate many orders from the publishing and advertising industries on the finishing market. The system is particularly suitable for finishing print products in small and medium runs. Packaging can be upgraded just as easily as books, magazines or brochures. A spot lacquered menu or an individually enhanced greeting card has an effect on the reader and impresses with its special feel and visuality. The new system is aimed, among others, at print service providers, finishers and all Konica Minolta customers who want to tap into profitable business opportunities.
The most important performance data at a glance:
Low investment and production costs make financing easier.
The coating can be applied with a layer thickness of 21 to 116 micrometers in a single pass.
The integrated AIS scanner allows the coating master to be precisely fitted onto the pre-printed sheet without cutting marks, waste and virtually no makeready time.
The MGI software includes a coating editor for coating file corrections, a cost calculator and job management.
The finishing system combines MGI technology with Konica Minolta's piezoelectric drop-on-demand printheads. Printing can be done on both offset and digitally printed materials. On-the-fly drying and curing with an environmentally friendly LED (ozone-free without exhaust air) is also standard. Up to 2,077 A3 sheets can be processed per hour in a format range of 364 x 750 mm.
As an option, variable data can be processed for versioned or personalized printing. A converter for converting PDF to TIFF is also available as an option, as is a facility for processing metal-coated substrates.
"The sales figures of a printed product improve significantly when tactile finishing is processed in addition to 4c printing. This is precisely the strength of the new MGI JETVARNISH 3D One. The system is capable of producing added value - and at attractive investment costs," explains Mirko Pelzer, Product Manager Industrial Printing at Konica Minolta.
The added value of packaging, a book cover or a brochure has been proven to stimulate the consumer to buy. A study by the Foil and Specialty Effects Association, for example, shows that the time required to identify finished products is 45 percent shorter than for products that have not been finished. In addition, refined products attract 18 percent more attention then purely print products. The consumer's visual attention in turn has a strong influence on his buying decision: the longer he concentrates on an article, the more likely it is that he will choose it and show greater sympathy for it.
The MGI JETVARNISH 3D One is already available in Germany. The new finishing system is exclusively distributed by Konica Minolta.
