The Plockmatic Group Purchase KGS srl

The Plockmatic Group, owners of UK digital finishing specialists Morgana Systems, has announced that it has completed the purchase of KGS srl.

KGS has manufactured and supplied a range of PUR binders to Morgana Systems for five years. For the last two years Morgana has been the only customer of KGS, taking 100% of the company’s production, with the units being sold under the Morgana brand as the DigiBook range of PUR Binders.

The KGS business was formed in 2010 by ex-Heidelberg employees to design and manufacture closed tank PUR binders. The innovative closed tank technology gives users the ability to manufacture small runs of books “on demand” while keeping start-up times and glue wastage to an absolute minimum.

The KGS factory, located in Mestrino, Italy, will continue to manufacture the market-leading range of innovative PUR binders, capable of providing productivity from 150 books per hour to 450 books per hour.

The unique, patented technology of the machines allows PUR books to be produced quickly and easily in all print environments. The binders are simple to use and ideal for the production of digital books in run lengths from one to thousands. In addition to the automatic operation of the binders, the automatic cleaning adds to their appeal.
Commenting on the acquisition of KGS, Ray Hillhouse, VP of Sales & Marketing for Morgana, said, “We have been selling the KGS manufactured products for several years now and have seen the market grow significantly over that time. We have taken the total production from the factory for the last two years, selling PUR binding products throughout the world, and now need to increase production to meet the continually growing demand from new and expanding markets.

“Owning the company will allow our expertise in supply chain and production to help KGS grow, while simultaneously reducing costs. Savings will be directly passed on to our customers and dealers.”
