r-pac and Solegear Complete Agreement to Accelerate Commercialization of New Sustainable Packaging Material

r-pac International Corp. and Solegear Bioplastics Inc. completed an agreement to accelerate the production, sales and distribution of Solegear's Polysole® and Traverse® plant-based plastic packaging.

Using its award-winning expertise in Green Chemistry, Solegear collaborated with leading Canadian research institutions, including the National Research Council of Canada, to develop novel bio-based and environmentally responsible bioplastics for rigid consumer product packaging. As part of this new agreement, r-pac and Solegear will work together on selling and marketing the bio-based packaging, having successfully completed materials evaluation and production testing. r-pac plans to begin offering the new products immediately.

Advance Central Services Michigan upgrades controls and drives to support growing commercial print business

Harland Simon has completed a project to upgrade controls and drives at Advance Central Services Michigan's Ann Arbor, Michigan production facility. The upgrade will support the company's growing commercial print business.

The project replaced GMI ink desks, folder SLC500 PLCs and Allen-Bradley 1395 drive modules, while also centralizing compensation, ink and damp control of the facility's two Goss Magnum presses.

Asian Media Awards Presented in Gala Ceremony

The World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) has urged Turkish President Abdullah Gül to challenge recent legislation that provides sweeping powers to censor online content.

Aarhus, Denmark, to Host MediaHackDays

MediaHackDays, a weekend hackathon event open to journalists and developers from around the world and organised by the Danish Chapter of Hacks/Hackers with sponsorship from CCI Europe and WAN-IFRA, is set to take place from 2 to 4 May, in Aarhus, Denmark, at CCI's headquarters.

The aim of the hackathon is to bring together innovation-minded journalists and developers and give them the opportunity to build new things within a journalistic framework, but without the constraints that tend to stifle innovation in the conventional work environment.

WAN-IFRA on the Move

The World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) is on the move, both literally and figuratively:

The global organisation for the world's newspapers and news publishers, with more than 18,000 members, will create a new entity; Wan-Ifra Services, to deliver business and technology related services. The Services division will operate out of Frankfurt, from July, while the press freedom, innovation hub, advocacy and media development will continue to be based out of the Association's office in Paris.
