Berlin Packaging Expands Team with General Counsel Robert Goldberg

Will Assist with Legal, Business & Acquisition Strategy to Support Rapid Company Growth

Berlin Packaging, North America's only Hybrid Packaging Supplier®, today announced the appointment of Robert Goldberg to serve as General Counsel, a new position created to fortify the company's strong growth trajectory. He brings nearly two decades of experience as a general corporate and commercial attorney, including partnership in an Am Law 100 firm, internal and external counsel roles for public and private companies, and a board of directors position at a private equity-owned company.

Effective October 5, Goldberg's legal responsibilities at Berlin Packaging include facilitating customer and supplier contracts, managing intellectual property matters, resolving disputes, and ensuring compliance. He also serves on the executive leadership team, where he will assist in establishing business strategy and making acquisitions decisions to help the company meet its goal of doubling revenues and earnings by 2017.

The company currently logs $900 million in revenues annually and has a history of double-digit organic growth, which is continuing in 2015.

"Hiring in-house counsel at this stage in our growth is an investment we are making to accelerate the completion of new contracts, agreements, and other legal matters that arise as we continue to expand our footprint," said Andrew Berlin, Chairman and CEO of Berlin Packaging. "Rob's depth and breadth of experience and interpersonal fit make him an ideal hire to meet our legal needs as well as to participate in the business development decisions that will help us meet our growth timetable."

"Berlin Packaging has built an impressive organization with an advantaged business model, industry-leading growth, a corporate culture unlike any I've ever seen, and a clear roadmap for increasing their share of the packaging space. It's a dynamic environment that gives me ample opportunity to contribute in both the legal and business arenas," Goldberg said.

Goldberg began his career in 1997 at Sidley Austin and moved to Kirkland & Ellis in 2000, becoming a partner in the corporate group with a focus on investment funds and portfolio companies. He left Kirkland in 2007 to become the first General Counsel of an Asia-based hospitality company owned by two private equity firms. He relocated to Hong Kong the next year and co-led the business development team, leading to the sale of the company in 2011. Most recently, he worked at publicly-traded global chemicals manufacturer Stepan Company as Associate General Counsel.

Goldberg has advised on more than $5 billion of transactions and currently teaches a course on international business transactions at Northwestern University School of Law. He earned a Juris Doctor from New York University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Illinois.
