Braun Denk & Werk takes layflat binding to a higher level with "Italian Binding

There are many printing houses that advertise themselves with creativity or craftsmanship. BRAUN Denk & Werk from Deggingen near Stuttgart in Baden-Württemberg is one of the houses where this combination fits almost perfectly. The team around the owner Holger Braun is self-confident enough to create their own print products, perfect them and successfully adapt them to customer requirements. One of these products is the layflat binding "Italian Binding".

Layflat bindings are used for brochures and magazines. When opened, the print object has no disturbing joint, so that perfectly fitting transitions work with motifs that run over both sides. This is complemented by perfect flatness and the implementation on an extremely high level at BRAUN Denk & Werk.
A striking detail is the strip of fabric worked into the back. This can be finished in almost any Pantone colour and is particularly effective as a stiff brochure. The bound block is also available with hard or soft cover and as Swiss brochure.
Each print object with "Italian Binding" can be produced from sheet number 2 to almost infinity. A further strength of "Italian Binding" is the flexibility with regard to format and material selection. Grammages from 80 g/m2 to 2 mm thickness are possible and can even be mixed sheet by sheet. Projects in business card size up to DIN A 2 format have already been realized.
"Italian Binding" has already been produced for customer magazines, annual reports and self-advertisements in various formats for well-known branded companies and corporations. With "THE aesthetic OF BLACK" a calendar with the layflat binding "Italian Binding" was produced for the first time. The oversize format and the year-round hanging of the calendar are further proof of the robustness with all the elegance of the special layflat binding.
This also convinced the jury of the German Design Awards 2020, who gave the following reasons
"The BLACK theme has been implemented in the fantastically produced calendar at an extremely high level in terms of form and content. In addition to the aesthetic visual language, the design convinces through a creative use of typography, which, together with the strong texts, creates a holistic effect".
