Indo-German project has electricity "growing" on trees

The solar tree on show by the Professorship in Print Media Technology at TU Chemnitz reveals to visitors at HANNOVER MESSE 2015 just how fruitful this Indo-German research venture has been.

The FLEXIPRIDE project has developed a mass-production process to manufacture printed paper photovoltaics inexpensively, quickly and in large quantities. The flexible paper solar cells can be used in the emerging economies, for example, to create a power supply for rural areas. A solar tree covered with paper solar cells demonstrates how the idea works. The energy generated by its 500 or so "leaves" is sufficient to power an ePaper display or charge smartphones.
