technotrans sets itself clear goal: climate neutrality as early as 2030

- All locations worldwide climate neutral by the end of 2030

- Climate target 15 years ahead of Germany and 20 years ahead of the EU
- Significant milestone in the sustainability strategy

technotrans is committing itself to net-zero emissions much earlier than the German government and the EU: By the end of the 2030 financial year, all locations worldwide are to have climate-neutral production. By comparison, Germany aims to achieve this goal by 2045 and the EU by 2050. The technology group's commitment to this goal is a significant milestone in its sustainability strategy. By setting this course, technotrans is underlining its responsibility to make an effective contribution to climate protection.
"Sustainability is a central and long-term strategic guideline of the technotrans Group," says Michael Finger, Spokesman of the Board of Management of technotrans SE. "We take our responsibility towards future generations very seriously and had therefore already set ourselves initial relevant climate protection targets for 2025. We are now extending these to include climate neutrality by 2030." This newly issued target thus complements the previous ESG targets defined as part of the company's Future Ready 2025 strategy. Three main factors play a role in achieving climate neutrality by 2030: increasing energy efficiency, increasing the company's own energy generation from renewable energy sources and purchasing electricity exclusively from renewable energy sources. Only unavoidable emissions will be offset by technotrans through certified climate protection projects.
First steps towards climate neutrality
The existing climate protection targets of the Future Ready 2025 strategy stipulate that technotrans will reduce its fuel requirements within the group by 5 percent per year by 2025 and will use only self-generated or certified renewable electricity from 2025. technotrans has already taken the first major steps towards climate neutrality: The group built two KfW 55 production sites, installed photovoltaic (PV) systems and uses heat pumps and hydrogen-capable heat supply at the Holzwickede site.
Perspective reduction of offset certificates
"Next we will gradually convert our vehicle fleet to e-mobility, reduce fossil fuel heat generation systems at our locations and significantly increase our number of PV systems," explains Peter Hirsch, Member of the Board of Management of technotrans SE. It is true that technotrans will be producing almost climate-neutrally at some locations well before 2030. At other locations, however, the company will need the time allowed for the change. Even after 2030, technotrans will continue to take climate-friendly measures to improve energy efficiency and increase the proportion of renewable energies it generates itself, emphasises Peter Hirsch. In the long term, the group intends to reduce the proportion of offset certificates it requires.
Environmental protection as a long-standing corporate guideline
Protecting the environment and the climate has played an important role at technotrans for many years. It extends from the development of new products through production to service. "As a basis for the roadmap to achieve greenhouse gas neutrality, we have calculated a corporate carbon footprint for the year 2020 for the first time," explains Michael Finger. Knowing how high the resource consumption and emissions of the production, service and sales locations are gives technotrans relevant pointers to potential savings.
When it comes to climate protection, however, technotrans does not just look at its own carbon footprint. The technology group's customers also benefit from the extensive expertise of technotrans employees in optimising solutions in terms of energy efficiency and CO2 balance. The efficient cooling and temperature control as well as resource-saving metering and filter solutions enable customers to become even more environmentally friendly.
