Sappi Fine Paper North America Continues to Celebrate Print Excellence with 2014 Printer of the Year Call for Entries

Today, Sappi Fine Paper North America announced its call for entries for the 2014 North American Printer of the Year awards, a competition that recognizes print excellence and innovation across 10 categories for work produced on Sappi papers. Since 1999, the Sappi Printer of the Year Awards program has been regarded as the world's most respected accolade of excellence in the printing industry.

In addition to esteemed recognition, judges will select one Printer of the Year among 10 of this year's Gold Award winning finalists to receive up to $20,000 in design support and 5,000lbs of paper towards marketing and brand initiatives.

R. R. Donnelley & Sons Company (Nasdaq:RRD) announced today that it has been awarded a $250 million multi-year agreement by Dex Media for directory production that renews and significantly expands the companies' relationship through 2020. There's no better way to pay tribute to a great typographer than to assign him a rock and roll past.

Mike Parker, 85, died at his home in Portland, Maine. He was, as some call him, the grandfather of modern typography, having made (or made famous) many of the fonts that we ignore in favor of Helvetica every day. Luckily, Helvetica is his baby. Perhaps you've heard of it? It's one of the most popular fonts in the world.

If you haven't, we've cobbled together an oral history of Mike's influence, described by the fonts themselves. 

William Denzen of Smyth Companies Honored for Commitment to Continuous Improvement

William Denzen, general manager of rollfed and Red Rock Technologies business units for Smyth Companies is the 2014 recipient of Printing Industries of America's Managing for Improvement Award. The award is bestowed each year on a manager in the printing industry who has demonstrated the ability to create real and lasting improvement for his or her company.

Denzen was selected by the judges from numerous nominations received nationwide. The nomination underscored his ongoing ability to lead people, teams, and projects to higher levels of performance.
