NanoTech Announces 4K HEVC and VP9 Support for Nuvola NP-1 and NP-C Streaming 4K Ultra HD Media Players

Joins Software HEVC / VP9 Decoder Partner Ittiam to Demonstrate Efficient and Affordable 4K Ultra HD Streaming Video

NanoTech Entertainment (OTCPINK: NTEK), a pioneer in bringing the 4K Ultra HD experience to consumers and businesses, announced today that it has partnered with Ittiam Systems Ltd., a world leader in highly-optimized HEVC and VP9 software decoder solutions, to provide NanoTech's Nuvola NP-1™ and NP-C™ consumer and commercial 4K Ultra HD streaming media players with HEVC (H.265) and VP9 support. NanoTech will join Ittiam in providing demonstrations of the newly enhanced players at Ittiam's NAB 2014 Booth SU11021 (Upper South Hall).

The demonstrations will show how Ittiam's Tegra-4 optimized 4K HEVC decoder running on Nuvola can effectively enable anyone with a 3 Mbps or greater pipe to stream 4K content to their Ultra HD TV. NanoTech's own 4K OTT Video Service, UltraFlix™, along with the likes of Amazon, Netflix, YouTube and M-GO will all be able to stream amazing quality content to Nuvola customers at lower bit-rates than ever before.

"Because of the massive amount of data required, delivering 4K content efficiently and cost-effectively has been the primary media technology hurdle for content owners, distributors and businesses," said Mukund Srinivasan, General Manager for the Consumer and Mobility Business of Ittiam. "Leveraging Ittiam's Decoder technology and Intellectual Property for the HEVC and VP9 video compression standards, Nuvola users will experience up to 50 percent better compression than with H.264, delivering literal-same quality at nearly half the bitrate. However," he noted, "HEVC and VP9 can also place considerable demands on a device's CPU performance, which calls for deep optimization expertise."

The Nuvola NP-1 and NP-C consumer and commercial streaming 4K players are multifunction devices that can be used to decode 4K Ultra HD, HD, SD and 3D movies in addition to playing state-of-the art 3D Video games. They can also stream content from a variety of sources, including the bundled UltraFlix channel, which serves 4K Ultra HD on demand content. With streaming capabilities, users don't have to wait for downloads or use up the capacity of their drives to store large files.

"Ittiam is known worldwide for successfully advancing the video technology industry," said Aaron Taylor, NanoTech's Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "We selected Ittiam's HEVC and VP9 software decoders because they are proven solutions that offer the quality and performance our customers expect from NanoTech. This is going to bring about a paradigm shift in content delivery that will drive wider adoption of the 4K Ultra HD standard."
