Kurz DM liner makes its debut at Xeikon Café

Hot stamping and coating technology to enhance digital production

Kurz group will showcase its hot stamping and coating technology at the Xeikon Café Packaging Innovations event, taking place in Belgium from March 10 to 12

Solutions from global leader Kurz enhance a wide assortment of products from packaging, greeting cards, electronic devices, household appliances, cosmetics, textiles, furniture, and automotive parts. Its state-of-the-art application technology, magnetic foils, and holograms provide effective and attractive brand name protection. The company also offers a way to increase security to prevent counterfeiting.

The latest hardware addition to the Kurz portfolio is the DM Liner. Developed by Kurz, it is a machine for processing high gloss or holographic DIGITAL METAL® foils. Paper sheets are first partially printed with dry toner, then the preprinted areas are coated with Digital Metal foil in the DM Liner. In the final step, the print media can be overprinted digitally or offset to produce a wide variety of bold metallic colors. Since the pre-printing with toner is digitally controlled, it is possible to add personalized content, serial numbers or individualized design elements. The DM Liner model can apply 5 to 30 meters of Digital Metal foil per minute and is suitable for paper with grammages between 90 and 350 grams per square meter. During the Xeikon Café, the capabilities of the DM-liner will be live demonstrate on different applications such as security and luxury cartons.

"Digital Metal combines digital printing with coating and metal-transfer process to create metallized surfaces, even for small runs or individual prints such as personalization," comments Sonja Steffl, Project Manager Digital Metal at Kurz. "We believe our new technology around the DM-LINER® is ideally suited to help Xeikon customers and brand owners to highlight how decorating digital print with real metal effects can impact the market and open up production opportunities."

"The ability to add special effects to quality digital print will give brand owners a greater chance to make their product pop and create a wow factor to help them stand out from the competition. Kurz is continuing to be a leader in the field of foiling by developing this unique technology that delivers high quality foiling. We are delighted to find a partner that will help our customers work with specialist associated technologies to further strengthen their print services portfolio," concludes Jeroen van Bauwel, Director Product Marketing at Xeikon.
