AWA Report Claims that Global Fiberboard Capacity Increased in 2021-2022

For the 2021-2022 period, AWA’s Fiberboard Industry Consultancy Services (FICS) projected a moderate increase in the total global Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) and particle board production capacity compared to the numbers from 2020-2021. The majority (58%) of the combined capacity consists of particle board.

Regionally, the largest portion of the combined production capacity of MDF and particle board can be found in Europe (56%). Following Europe, Asia Pacific has the second-largest combined production capacity (21%). South America (11%) and North America (9%) have similar market shares. The Middle East and Africa (3%) represent the smallest share of the global market.
The 2023 Fiberboard Market Study primarily focuses on MDF and particle board as they constitute the industry’s core. To establish a frame of reference and a broader picture of the global wood-based panel industry, and particularly the role of MDF and particle board within it, other wood-based panels are included in the analysis.
