Launch of the German Packaging Award 2020

The submission phase for the German Packaging Award has begun. From now until 15 June, innovations and the best solutions in the field of packaging can be submitted to the packaging industry’s showcase competition organised by the German Packaging Institute (dvi). The dvi will be presenting a number of innovations for 2020, including the new “Digitization” category, new partners, even more awards as well as a special award. The competition covers all materials and is held under the patronage of the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy.

The German Packaging Award is the largest performance show for packaging innovations in Europe. The competition is open to companies, organisations and individuals from Germany and abroad, across all materials and industries. The jury is made up of a broad-based panel of experts from trade associations, research institutes and universities, from industry and trade, from brand-name companies and the trade press. The jury will examine all entries during two days of deliberations using sets of fixed criteria for each competition category. In addition to the Packaging Award, the jury can also award Gold Awards for particularly outstanding innovations.
New “Digitization” category
Dr. Bettina Horenburg, Director of Corporate Communications at Siegwerk Group, dvi board member and overall responsible person of the German Packaging Award, is pleased to announce a number of innovations for 2020. “The German Packaging Award has a long tradition. This includes continuously evaluating and improving the competition to reflect the changing needs and priorities of participants. A prime example of this is the new “Digitization” competition category. We can now use this to promote innovations relating to digital transformation in a much more targeted way and offer them the big stage they deserve. All nine previous categories remain unchanged.”
Awards and special awards
The dvi is emphasising and strengthening the “sustainability” category with a special award. “The special award for sustainability has been made possible by our new cooperation partner PEFC,” Bettina Horenburg proudly announced.
There are also some new features around the established Packaging Awards and Gold Awards. “If we receive as many high-quality entries as we have in recent years, we will increase the number of Packaging Awards,” said Dr. Horenburg. “The jury will also have the opportunity to award more Gold Awards than before.”
More premium partners
As well as PEFC joining forces as a partner for the special sustainability award, the dvi is also introducing another competition premium partner. “After having been able to further secure and strengthen our long-standing and excellent partnership with NürnbergMesse for the future, we are pleased to be able to present the IGEPA group as another premium partner. One of the leading specialist wholesale groups in Europe, IGEPA will, among other things, be the new host for the two-day jury deliberations during which all submissions will be examined and evaluated,” explained Bettina Horenburg.
Innovations in one or more categories are submitted via an online form on the German Packaging Award website. The website also provides information on the ten competition categories and their respective criteria. “We will also be introducing the jury members there soon,” announced Dr. Horenburg: “I am already looking forward to many exciting entries and invite colleagues along the value chain to our grand award ceremony and the presentation of the Gold Awards in Berlin on 24 September 2020.”
